Roby appointed to House Education and Workforce Committee
House Speaker John Boehner appointed Congresswoman Martha Roby to the prestigious House Committee on Education and the Workforce on Thursday, granting Roby a third committee assignment and a seat at the table to reform education policies that affect the more than 120,000 K-12 students in Alabama’s Second Congressional District.
The committee, led by Chairman John Kline (R-MN), also has oversight over federal workforce development programs aimed at making America’s workers more competitive in the global economy.
While most House members sit on just two committees, Roby will be part of a smaller group that has three. She also serves on two other committees critical to the Second District: the House Armed Services Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
“I strongly believe that our education system should be child-centric and parent-driven and that we must fully support our teacher’s efforts in the classroom. The Congress and the Department of Education must never forget that teachers in Opp, Troy, and Prattville know how to teach our children better then bureaucrats in Washington,” Roby said. “I’m honored to be selected by the Republican leadership to serve on this very important committee. The ideas we discuss and the legislation we consider will have a direct impact on students, teachers, and parents throughout the district.”
