Statement on Death of Osama Bin Laden

May 2, 2011
Press Release

Rep. Martha Roby delivered the following statement tonight after news broke of the death of Osama Bin Laden.

“It has been a long nine years for our country recovering from the tragedy of 9-11. As information has developed, we tonight learned that Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda and the mastermind behind these terrible attacks on our soil, is dead. He was brought down in a raid by U.S. Special Forces where there were no U.S. casualties. It is a tremendous moment in our history as we will forever recall this night that this terrorist responsible for the loss of so many innocent American lives is fallen. The face of terrorism that has haunted and threatened our country for nearly two decades has been eliminated.

“Thank you to our own men and women serving in uniform, and those serving in the intelligence community, who continue to demonstrate courage and fight for the safety of our nation in the face of terrorism. There is no doubt that the justice brought today is due to the tireless effort and work of George W. Bush and the continued efforts of President Obama and his administration. Thank you to President Obama for continuing this effort to Bin Laden’s ultimate demise.

“America remains grateful for all of the men and women who have sacrificed so much in the war against terror over the course of the past nine years. We have much work left to do and must never let our defenses down. This is a dangerous world, and there are those who hate our liberty and freedom and will go to extremes to do whatever they can to destroy it. It is important to continue to stand strong in our defense as a nation to continue to protect our freedoms from any possible threats.”
