Press Release

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today announced that Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) will deliver the Weekly Republican Address on Saturday, May 14.  Rep. Roby will discuss the need for Washington to take action on the big challenges hurting job creation in America, including soaring gas prices and government spending.  She will reiterate that the American people will not tolerate an increase in the debt limit unless it is accompanied by real spending cuts and reforms.

“Our nation is facing a trillion dollar deficit, high gas prices, a sluggish economy, and slow job growth,” Rep. Roby said. “When I’m at home, my constituents in Alabama’s Second Congressional district share their concern about the future of our great country, and how they are working hard to make ends meet. To turn things around, we must get our fiscal house in order, and that means making tough choices here in Congress to implement real spending reforms, lower the cost of energy, and help create jobs. This is what my constituents sent me here to do.”

Martha Roby is in her first term representing the people of Alabama’s Second Congressional District.  She sits on the Armed Services, Agriculture, and Education & the Workforce committees.   A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Roby previously served on the Montgomery City Council representing Council District Seven.  Roby is married to Riley Roby and they have two children, Margaret and George.

“When it comes to the big challenges facing our country, whether it’s rising debt or soaring gas prices, the greatest threat is doing nothing,” Speaker Boehner said. “Martha has quickly demonstrated she came to Washington to get things done, and I look forward to hearing what she has to say about what we need to do to help create private-sector jobs in America.”
