Roby In Afghanistan for Surprise Mother’s Day Visit with U.S. Troops
U.S. Representative Martha Roby (AL-02) – a mother of two – is spending Mother’s Day with U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan, where she is also visiting with wounded warriors and receiving briefings from U.S. military commanders. Roby, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, is part of a small delegation of congresswomen making the trip, which includes stops at a number of U.S. military bases.
Stephen Boyd, Roby’s Chief of Staff, said today that Roby is using the visit as a chance to thank military moms for their sacrifice, “Rep. Roby cares deeply about our military families. As a mother herself, she wanted to take the opportunity to spend time with military moms deployed in Afghanistan to thank them for their unique sacrifice and to extend warm Mother’s Day wishes. And to our younger troops, she’ll speak on behalf of all mothers when she says ‘Your mom is thinking of you and praying for you every day. She’s proud of you. She wants you to do your job well, succeed in your mission, and come home safely’.”
Roby’s trip is an opportunity to meet with U.S. commanders on the ground and to gain a firsthand view of ongoing military operations in Afghanistan following the death of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
