Press Release

In recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr., Congressman Martha Roby made the following remarks for Monday’s national day of service to celebrate his life and contributions to our country.

“Today we recognize the courageous acts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his remarkable devotion to the civil rights movement,” said Roby. “Our area knows very well the struggles of the civil rights movement, as many events took place in and around Alabama in the 1960s.

“Dr. King’s peaceful methods to resolve a nation’s civil conflicts crumbled barriers that separated our country for decades. His courageous acts educated our nation and introduced the end to segregation. He so diplomatically stated, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere’. Martin Luther King, Jr., taught our nation that no matter our color or race, we each have the right to be treated equally.

“Generations after ours will always recall the result of his peaceful actions. We will forever celebrate his legacy.”
