U.S. Representative Martha Roby visited with members of the "One Voice" youth choir from First Baptist Church Montgomery on the steps of the United States Capitol. The choir performed a commanding rendition of the National Anthem during their visit with Rep. Roby.
The importance of public service and self-sacrifice was the focus of a speech presented to delegates of Girls State by U.S. Rep. Martha Roby of Alabama (R-2nd) at Troy University Wednesday.
“I cannot stress to you enough the significance of public service,” she said, “and to be open to the call and ready to serve others for whatever it takes.”

Delegates to Girls State were urged to design for themselves lives that allow them to share their gifts and talents but also make time for public service.

The Tyler farmer, who planted peanuts on 360 acres this year, wants Congress to beef up safety-net programs that help growers absorb price declines and recover from natural disasters.

Congresswoman Martha Roby is the planned speaker at next week’s Female Factor luncheon.
“We thought we should hear what was going on in Washington from a woman’s perspective,” said Dianna Lee, a member of the Female Factor advisory board. “[Female Factor] involves everything and that’s why we wanted Congresswoman Roby to come speak.”
