Roby Urges Agriculture Secretary to Declare Damaged AL-02 Counties Agriculture Disaster Areas
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) today sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue in support of Governor Kay Ivey’s request that he declare the appropriate hurricane-damaged counties in Alabama’s Second District as agriculture disaster areas.
Representative Roby, who was recently on the ground in the Wiregrass assessing the Hurricane Michael damage to local agriculture, was able to see firsthand the devastation this storm brought to Alabama’s Second District. Roby’s letter to Secretary Perdue states in part:
“Hurricane Michael’s torrential rains and high winds tore through parts of southeastern Alabama… All areas in Alabama that were intensely impacted by this storm are in my district. The assessments on losses by individual farmers are ongoing, and I support Governor Ivey’s request to have all appropriate resources available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to assist in this effort.”
