Roby Congratulates 2019 Congressional Art Competition Winner
U.S. Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) today congratulated Erika Lewis for being selected as the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition in Alabama’s Second District.
Erika is currently a senior at Booker T. Washington Magnet School. Her winning piece, titled “Madam President,” is a drawing in presidential poster format. It will be displayed in the United States Capitol building for one year.
“I am proud to congratulate Erika for this outstanding achievement,” Representative Roby said. “The annual Congressional Art Competition celebrates the importance of art and provides a great opportunity for students to showcase their unique talents. I am pleased to join Erika’s family and friends in celebrating her beautiful work, and I look forward to seeing her piece displayed in the Capitol building.”
Every spring since 1982, members of Congress have sponsored this high school art competition in their respective districts. Since then, more than 650,000 students have participated nationwide. All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution.
