This week, Congress passed a comprehensive Appropriations plan for 11 out of 12 titles, with a continuing resolution for Homeland Security. The plan brings the federal deficit to half what it was in 2010, slashes funding for the IRS by $345 million, prevents federal authorities from regulating farm ponds and irrigation ditches under the Clean Water Act and provides critical military funding, including for the new Lakota Helicopters to enhance the aviation training mission at Fort Rucker and for the Navy's Mobile-built Littoral Combat Ship and Joint- High Speed Vessel.

Physical injuries are not the only ones endured in war. Many soldiers return home with wounds we cannot see. For some veterans, the psychological trauma endured on the battlefield affects them and their families long after the shots stop firing.

You’ve probably heard me talk before about the “squeeze” facing middle class families in this economy. A recent front page Wall Street Journal article laid out what is behind that squeeze - the combination of rising costs for basic needs and largely stagnant incomes.

As President Obama was set to address the nation on his immigration plans, I had hoped he would commit to executing the law faithfully, just like he swore an oath to do as president. Instead, we heard the opposite.

Five years after its passage, the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, is as unpopular as ever – only 37 percent of Americans view it favorably. Adding insult to injury this week was Jonathan Gruber, an MIT economist and one of the chief architects of the Obamacare law. Videos surfaced of Gruber acknowledging the lack of transparency and outright deceit it took to pass Obamacare through Congress five years ago.

Recent gains by Republicans in the Senate have many people wondering what is in store the 114th Congress. My hope is that we will be able to utilize this New Majority to finally move meaningful legislation.

“To everything there is a season,” Ecclesiastes reads. The end of the campaign season is a relief to those who tire of hearing all the political ads. It also brings the beginning of a new, more important season: a season for governing. We have work to do getting this country back on track, and the time to start is now.

Like many Americans, I am seriously concerned about the effectiveness of our country’s response to the Ebola outbreak and how it will affect our ability to protect Americans from this threat. I recently wrote President Obama a letter calling on him to take more decisive action to prevent American citizens from further exposure.

For about four years now, the Professional Left in Washington has been engaged in a desperate campaign to convince the American people that conservatives are engaged in a “War on Women.” You've probably seen the political ads or heard the rhetoric from television commentators. Their goal is to label anyone who is pro-life and believes taxpayer money shouldn’t be spent funding abortions is “anti-woman.”
