UPDATE: This week I went to the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System’s (CAVHCS) Montgomery campus to meet with acting director Robin Jackson, Southeast regional director Chuck Sepich, and acting chief of staff Dr. Srinivas Ginjupalli. I asked for this meeting because it has been five weeks since the former director and chief of staff were removed, and I wanted to meet the new leadership and assess their progress toward instilling transparency and accountability at CAVHCS.

It helps me represent you better in Congress. Now it is time for Congress to reconvene, and there is much ground to cover before the end of the year.

I have been traveling throughout Alabama's 2nd Congressional District over the month of August discussing the latest from Washington and, more importantly, listening to my constituents to gain a better understanding about the issues that matter to you. We've been through Prattville, Montgomery, Tallassee, Union Springs, Troy, Luverne, Evergreen, Andalusia, Elba, Enterprise, Geneva, Hartford and beyond. Among the top issues brought up in every town was the growing threat posed by the self-identified Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

I wanted to update you on the latest developments with the crisis situation on the Mexican border. The House has worked for the last few weeks to craft a plan to address this border crisis. I’m pleased that we were able to pass critical appropriations bill aimed at stemming the recent influx of illegal immigrants by beefing up border security and closing a legal loophole currently being exploited by human traffickers.
