U.S. Representative Martha Roby announced today that Caroline Madison, from Montgomery, is currently serving as a Congressional intern in her Washington D.C., office.
The Ripon Society hosted a breakfast discussion this past Thursday morning with three Republican women serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, who not only discussed budget reform, bipartisanship, and other key issues being debated on Capitol Hill, but shared their thoughts on why they would like to see more women serving alongside them in Congress, as well.
“I don’t know anyone who can grow only peanuts, all the time, and stay in business,” said Ken Baker, who grows peanuts in the Wiregrass area. “The biggest culprit is the input price. The price of peanuts is staying the same and fuel is more than $3.50 a gallon.”
Baker is not alone in his concerns regarding the rising cost of peanut production.
Congresswoman Martha Roby (R) from Montgomery warned on Facebook that some Democrats were willing to trigger a second recession in order to get their way on a massive new tax increase.
Representative Roby said, “We must avoid any tactics from those willing to "plunge the nation back into recession" in order to force a massive tax increase.”
Two bills are seeking to accomplish the same task: replacing the soon-to-expire 2008 farm bill.
Last month, the Senate passed the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012, but the House has yet to bring it up for a vote.
